About Mayfield Preserves

I am lucky to have had skills passed on to me by my family who have a history of over 150 years as fruiterers. Preserving fruit was a family tradition, ensuring nothing went to waste.

I still make frequent use of the old brass preserving pan which my mother passed on to me. Every year she would make the most gorgeous peach jam, which was my first taste of yummy homemade goodies and I know it never lasted for long.Preserve making pan

My personal favourite is strawberry and with the fruit farm so close we always have our own supply, ready to pick and make into beautiful fresh tasting jam within a couple of hours. It is still one of the most popular products I make.

However, marmalade is something special to me and it was a delight to discover the World Marmalade Competition in Cumbria: www.marmaladeawards.com. Do visit this site, a prestigious event in beautiful surroundings, which supports the hospice at home charity.

My first timid entry in 2011 was a great surprise, the 3 jars gaining one gold award and two silvers.
